Whether you are playing The Sims for the first time or have played since it was released in 2000, online resources go a long way to help improve your gaming experience. Of course, as with everything on the internet, always make sure to take precautions to protect your information.
In this article, I will be focusing mainly on The Sims 3 and The Sims 4. However, if you have other resources that you find helpful for any of the game releases make sure to mention them in the comments.
Since I began playing The Sims 3 in 2011, there have been a few sources that I find myself using to increase my knowledge of the franchise’s mechanics, help fix bugs, and explore all that the game has to offer.
Carl’s Sims Guide for Sims 3 and Sims 4
The most helpful resource would be Carl’s Sims Guides. Not only does Carl cover the basic mechanics of the games, but there are in-depth summaries for all of the expansion packs as well. The article which I use the most would be the summary for the Get to Work expansion pack’s medical career, which provides detailed instructions on correctly diagnosing NPCs. Carl also provides a reliable list of cheats as well.
Podcasts (ie. Under the Plumbob)
At first, it may be surprising that a podcast could be solely based on everything Sims. However, Under the Plumbob does a fantastic job with over 50 episodes of fun, but informative content on newly released packs, external resources, and The Sims lore. If you ever find yourself at a loss of what to listen to on your drive to work, look no further than this podcast.
Facebook/Reddit Groups
Oftentimes, the best information can be found by asking your fellow Sims players. There are a variety of different Facebook and Reddit groups where you can share your creations, bug issues, and any questions. Some great Facebook groups to follow would be The Sims: Elite, The Sims 1-4, and The Sims 3. On Reddit, simply search for either game to find a host of different groups to choose from.
YouTube
There are various other guides available on IGN and The Sims official website as well where you can get quality information on cheats and mechanics such as Sims 4 Emotions. However, the vastest resource would be YouTube. YouTubers such as XUrbanSimsX and itsmeTroi are not only entertaining but provide insight into the quality of various mods and DLC.
