There’s nothing quite as relaxing as playing a cozy video game on a rainy day. Video gaming is not only an indoor activity that will keep you toasty n’ dry. The combination of melodic raindrops and an engaging, atmospheric game helps to create an engulfing sense of calm. Whether a thunderstorm has you cooped up inside or you’re just looking for an escape for a few hours, casual video games are wonderful options.

Playing video games on a dark rainy day is the best feeling ever from gaming

But, there are specific video games that I think do a much better job at making you want to snuggle up in a blanket or sink into a comfy chair. ๐Ÿฅฐ For this reason, I have a specific set of video games for rainy days that always pair well with a good cup of chamomile tea and a warm blanket.

With their rich atmospheres, engaging stories and pleasant soundtracks, these cozy video games will help you relax and decompress. ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ

7. Coffee Talk

Where do I begin? This game is quite literally the definition of the word “cozy”.

Coffee Talk is a video game that embodies what it means to be cozy with its warm coffeehouse vibes and calming soundtrack. In this pixelated game, you play as a Chicago barista, preparing coffee for passersby and helping solve their problems. What’s better than curling up with a game to create warm drinks and listen to people’s life stories?

6. Stardew Valley

How can you describe a favorite game that never gets old and makes you feel immensely accomplished all the time?stardew valley video game with two players attending the egg festival

Stardew Valley has been transporting players to a harmonious and therapeutic farming world of profitable crops, rewarding character stories and resource management since 2016. This video game has gotten me through many power outages, snow days and rainy Sunday afternoons. This bright, pixelated game is made even better with its overwhelmingly positive gaming culture and frequent (free!) content updates. Who knew tending a farm could be so relaxing? ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ

5. Minecraft

My favorite to play if I feel like strutting out exploring–getting lost about 5x in the process.

Another great video game for those rainy autumn mornings would be Minecraft. This popular video game provides a mixture of survival, creative sandbox and adventure aspects. Minecraft creates a relaxing atmosphere with its ambient soundtrack, beautiful biomes and the occasional downpour of cubed raindrops. ๐ŸŒง (Unless you’re get5ting chased by Creepers… but you need some excitement to keep you on your toes, right? ๐Ÿ˜‹)

4. Sims 4

Literally the best game to play if you don’t want to use your brain and live out your dream life.

Coziness Level: โ˜•โ˜•โ˜• 3/5

Sims 4 is a long-running life simulation video game created by EA. In this realistic yet somewhat ridiculous video game, you play as a custom-made sim living their dream life, whether that be as an artist, fashionista, police officer, doctor, social media influencer or culinary aficionado. How your sim lives their life is completely up to you! Sims 4 is perfect for days when you just need an escape. In this video game, your biggest concern is making sure your sim calms down before they die of laughter (and yes, that’s a thing).

3. Lost Ember

I’m not crying… you’re crying!

Lost Ember is everything that you’d want in a casual, indie video game. From breathtaking graphics to a heartwarming story, Lost Ember holds a special place on my digital shelf as being one of the most enjoyable narrative-style video games I have ever played. In this engaging video game, you play as a lone wolf helping a lost soul cross into the afterlife. In this adventure, you shape-shift into the animals you come across including fish, hummingbirds and sloths to easily traverse the many different biomes. Lost Ember provides the perfect amount of gameplay, easy to finish over a long, rainy weekend.

2. Ori and the Blind Forest

An amazing game if you love playing adorable bunny-like creatures that shoot deadly balls of exploding light.

Coziness Level: โ˜•โ˜•โ˜•โ˜• 4/5

For those who appreciate a healthy mixture of casual and challenging gameplay, Ori and the Blind Forest should be next on your need-to-play list. This side-scrolling video game features Ori, a sprite-like creature who is destined for greatness and heroics. Ori and the Blind Forest knock expectations out of the park with its stunning graphics, a simple yet effective skill tree, and a profound storylineโ€”enough to make anyone ugly cry. This indie game is perfect for those looking to engross themselves into a fantasy world where darkness looms until a bright light appears amide the darkness.

1. Cloudpunk

It never stops raining in this game. And I LOVE IT.

Want to play a game where it never stops raining? Cloudpunk is a slice-of-life video game following the story of Rania, a spunky and sarcastic newcomer to the bustling city of Nivalis. In this cyberpunk-style video game, you follow along on Rania’s many–often questionable–jobs for the “mostly legal” Cloudpunk delivery service. This video game stole my heart with its neon pixels, film noir storyline, strong female lead and quirky side quests. Whatever you do… just don’t talk to the package.
